(Oct. 04, 2002) -- After a successful donation campaign by the users of the 3D program Blender, the nonprofit corporation Blender Foundation has gathered sufficient funding to continue the popular 3D tool as an open source project. Within the 3D industry, but especially the open source community, this event has been recognized as being unique and with a potential significant influence on the development of 3D media at the Internet.

This Dutch initiative is now being supported by the Waag Society, who offers its location in a famous Amsterdam monument for a three day conference around the open source project of Blender. An estimated amount of 90 people from all over the world will participate in discussions, presentations and workshops. Most activities will be live broadcasted via the Internet. During the closing of the conference, Sunday October 13, Blender will be officially donated to the Internet. It is a fully integrated tool, which allows 3D artists to do the modeling, make animations, and render stills and videos. Blender stands out among its competitors by incorporating a 3D game engine, including tools to create interactive presentations and games. According the last verified statistics, Blender had 250,000 registered users worldwide.
